All artists that are represented at the Reeflections Gallery are Maui residents that create their art on island. This is very important to us and is one of the main reasons we opened the gallery in the first place. Our artists are determined to offer authentic "Made on Maui" art to our customers that care about how and where their purchase was created.

The above tabs will open pages that will acquaint you with a few of the artists that have some of their work available at our Maui gallery. Some have or will have, their work available on this site as well.

The Photography of Michael Roberts

Michael Roberts is an international award winning photographer from the island of Maui. He has Click to enter gallery been published in several books and magazines and offers private photography workshops - both underwater and above.

As one of the proprietors of Reeflections Gallery on Maui, Michael is often there to talk story about the stories behind his images and anything else that may come up.

My earliest memories of the world were filled with the ocean. As a young boy in the early 50's, I played and learned to swim on the beaches of South Maui. The road was dirt and the empty beaches were a personal domain for my dog "Tui" and me.

Now, over a half of a century later, I am still playing in and around the shores of the Hawaiian Islands. But now my joy comes from capturing the beauty of the sea with a camera. Whether shooting another Hawaiian sun as it settles behind the waves or diving beneath the waves myself, my aspiration is to share my adventures and my love of Maui through the eye of a camera.

Reef Bags

In 1960, at the age of 10, Cathy's mother began to teach her to sew. At 17, she had saved enough to buy her first machine and was making her own clothes and gifts for family and friends. She says that her obsession with finding a better purse for herself is what got her started with bag design years ago. Bags of all kinds were flying off her cutting table. From beach bags, to diaper bags, to fancy purses. She tried different kinds of pockets, snaps, zippers. She experimented with all sorts of material testing for strength, durability and pizazz. After a 20 plus year quest, she finally came to the conclusion that she would never find the “perfect bag” but will always be improving them.

Cathy says that she enjoys expressing her art as something with every day utility. Now most of her sewing is toward creating new designs of all kinds. Beach bags for toting everything from beach stuff to toys and “designer type” satchels for what she calls “purse stuff.”

First she shops for a new material she would like to work with, buy a lot of it, then creates a design to match. When the material is gone, she starts over. “This is how I keep it fresh,” she explains. Even within the process of that design, each bag is created one at a time with aloha. Of course since she has such an obsession with bags, she is always talking to people about what they like or need from a bag and tries to incorporate good ideas for beauty and usefulness, along with her always personal touches, in each new design.

These days, with so much of time devoted to the operation of Reeflections Gallery and silversmithing, Cathy only produces a few bags each month so stock is limited and Reeflections Gallery is the only place in the world they are available.

Notwithstanding the constant evolution of her work, each one of her pieces shares some common traits. All of Cathy's bags are sturdy, fully lined, double stitched, comfortable to carry and most important, made with aloha.

Cathy expects her bags to offer years of style and usefulness so she guarantees every one of them for 20 years!

Anna Keay

Oil Paintings by Anna Keay

Beauty is said to follow the soul, be a friend of nature and lover of truth. Anna Keay does just that, bringing her experiences of beauty directly to the canvas. Anna gathers inspiration from the redwoods of Humboldt California where she was raised, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, and the breath- taking magic of Hana, Maui where she has lived off and on since 1997. In Hana, Anna spent time exploring her sister's flower farm, giving her a radiant urge to replicate its vibrant beauty, to find that "perfect flower".

While pursuing an art degree at Humboldt State University, Anna also relished in other mediums such as ceramics and jewelry making. After making commissioned paintings for friends and clients she began selling artwork from restaurants, wineries, and galleries in Santa Barbara, CA where she developed a strong reputation as an artist. She has now transpired as a professional painter, finding that unique detail in nature, that lustful scent of each petal, delighting the eyes and soothing the soul.

Presently, with Maui as her home, Anna exhibits her work in many island galleries and is usually found creating new work in her studio.

Original and limited edition reproductions of Anna's work are available at Reeflections Maui Gallery and some pieces will soon be available right here online. If you have any questions about the availability of her work or would like to commission a piece, please email us.

A few special pieces are collaborative efforts between Cathy and Maui glass artist Nate Belmont.

Because these pieces are all unique, we are unable to offer them online so they are exclusively available at Reeflections Gallery on Maui.
